Winter is fast approaching, so now's the time to prepare your home for the colder months. Download and print our practical checklist featuring seven essential winterizing tips—it's always a great feeling to check off your seasonal tasks.

  1. Install Draft Stoppers - Drafts can add up to 30% to your utility bill.  Using a door draft stopper is an easy install that will save you in the long run.

  2. Reverse Ceiling Fans - Adjust the fan to run clockwise at a low speed in the winter to draw cold air up from the floor. As it flows upward, it pushes the warm air out toward your walls and down into your living space.

  3. Window Shrink Wrap - This insulating plastic easily adheres to your windows.  Set in place with a hair dryer and simply remove when spring returns.

  4. Lower Water Heater - By simply lowering the temperature to 120 degrees can potentially reduce your water heating costs by up to 10%

  5. Furnace - Typically, it is recommended to change the filter every 3 months, but during winter, it should be changed every month to keep your furnace running more efficiently.

  6. Lower Thermostat - 50-70% of your bill goes towards heating, so every degree you lower the temperature, is money in your pocket.  So, make sure you lower the heat down when you’re not home for long periods of time.

  7. Bundle up and get cozy - Covering yourself with a heavy blanket can add up to 4 degrees of warmth.
